The United States Rugby Foundation has reorganized as a Delaware not-for-profit corporation. Donations and contributions made to the Foundation by individuals or organizations are exempt from U.S. Federal and State Tax in accordance with the Foundation’s status as a 501(c)3 organization. Please note our new EIN is 81-5187776. Foundation assets earmarked for giving are dispersed in the form of grants to individuals and organizations that have demonstrable needs or requests that meet the guidelines established by the USRF.

Nick Fedorenko

Nick Fedorenko grew up in Chicago and attended St. Francis De Sales High School. While there, he played on the school’s football, wrestling and baseball teams. He earned Illinois All-State recognition in football and was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Notre Dame. Fedorenko was a member of the Fighting Irish’ 1973 National Championship team coached by the legendary, Ara Parseghian, as they defeated Alabama in the title game. Fedorenko won two Monograms at Notre Dame and earned his degree in Finance.

Fedorenko began playing rugby in 1976 for Notre Dame, then played 15 years for the Chicago Lions Rugby Club. He captained the team and eventually became President of the club. He represented the Chicago Area RFU on many occasions and also played 68 matches for the Midwest, including matches against England, South Africa, and on a victorious occasion against Japan. Fedorenko was also a member of the USA Cougars on their tour to South Africa and Rhodesia, playing in 6 out of the 7 matches, including games against the South Africa U23s and Rhodesia. He finished up his rugby playing career with Scioto Valley.

Fedorenko continued to give back to rugby after his playing days concluded as he was on the coaching staffs of the Chicago Lions and Scioto Valley, and was the Midwest’s forwards coach for over 10 years. Fedorenko has worked with Central Steel and Wire for the past 40 years. He has been married to Janet for 39 years and they have two daughters and one granddaughter.
