San Diego, CA (October 10, 2018) – The United States Rugby Foundation is pleased to announce that long-serving rugby supporters, The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, is the title sponsor of this year’s Lost Afternoon Luncheon.
Penn Mutual, sponsors of the Collegiate Rugby Championship, National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO), USA Sevens and Las Vegas Invitational, is now teaming up with the Rugby Foundation at this year’s Luncheon, which will now be titled, the Lost Afternoon Luncheon Presented by Penn Mutual.
“We are thrilled and appreciative of Penn Mutual’s title sponsorship of this year’s Lost Afternoon Luncheon,” said U.S. Rugby Foundation Chairman, Brad Andrews. “Their support of the CRC, NSCRO and the USA Sevens has had a great impact at a number of levels of rugby in this country and we hope that this year’s Luncheon will be the start of a long and successful relationship for both organizations.”
Penn Mutual’s Executive Vice President, Tom Harris, is also looking forward to the partnership.

In case you haven’t made your plans for the Lost Afternoon Luncheon, it’s not too late. Join us Friday, November 2, 2018 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency Chicago for an afternoon of rugby fun at what has become a must-attend event on the test calendar.
Although the full list of speakers for this year’s Luncheon is still being finalized, past Ireland, and British and Irish Lions great Donncha O’Callaghan has signed on as this year’s keynote speaker. Donncha is a much sought after dinner speaker in the U.K. and works with a number of different charities, including UNICEF.
In addition, U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Gary Gold, who has the Eagles on a current 8-0 run, will answer a few questions ahead of his team’s game with the New Zealand Maori All Blacks. He’ll be accompanied by U.S. Men’s Team General Manager, former Eagles captain and U.S. Rugby Hall of Famer, Dave Hodges. Hopefully, Dave will have some of his Eagle players in tow.
Also speaking, ahead of his team’s match with the world’s number one ranked New Zealand Black Ferns, will be new U.S. Women’s National Team head coach, Rob Cain. Accompanying him to the Lost Afternoon will be the General Manager of Women’s High Performance and past Eagle, Emilie Bydwell.
They join an ever growing list of past United States Eagles players who have already confirmed their attendance, including Ray Green, Denis Shanagher, Alec Montgomery, Butch Horwath, Brad Andrews, Dan Lyle, Tony Ridnell, Greg Schneeweis, Todd Clever, Steve Finkel, Chip Howard, Bill Fraumann, Mark Sawicki, David Fee, Brian Vizard and Pat Johnson. Past U.S. Eagles head coach, Ray Cornbill, will also be attending.
Fraumann, Vizard, Hodges, Lyle, Finkel, Cornbill and Andrews will be joined by fellow U.S. Rugby Hall of Fame members Jay Waldron, Don Haider and Bob Watkins.
A raffle, which will include autographed sports memorabilia, including several rugby jerseys autographed by past and present United States, New Zealand and Ireland players, will take place following the official program.
Typically the 90-minute program turns into a full day extravaganza so please plan your schedule accordingly. We don’t call it a lost afternoon for nothing.
The best part of it all is that all proceeds from the Lost Afternoon Luncheon will be directed towards youth rugby.
