Dan Lyle was the original “Captain America” becoming the first USA player in the pro era to conquer the international stage both internationally and professionally. The son of a two-star general gave rise to his leadership of both the US team and becoming the first American to captain a Premiership team. Excelling in American Football at university, he shunned a contract with the Minnesota Vikings and made 125 appearances while winning the 1998 Heineken European Cup at Bath. Stints with the fabled Barbarians along with the Leicester Tigers rounded out his professional career. Dan earned 45 caps for the USA including the 1999 and 2003 RWC. Equally adept at 7’s at the 1997 RWC 7’s in HK he was one of few players to captain both teams. Today, Dan, his wife Becky, and there three sons, live in Colorado and is the Director of AEG Rugby.
