The MLR is one of the youngest professional sporting league in the U.S.!

The professional rugby union league, Major League Rugby (MLR), was founded in 2017. This league has grown rapidly, featuring teams across North America and attracting international talent. MLR is credited with revitalizing rugby's presence in the U.S., providing a platform for domestic players to develop and compete at a high level while introducing new audiences to the sport.

Did You Know? 

Several MLR players have received grants from the US Rugby Foundation, here are just a few:

  • Cam Dolan: Recipient of the Pathways to Excellence Fund in 2008, Dolan has represented the U.S. national team and played professionally in MLR.
  • Ben Pinkelman: Awarded the Graham Downes Rugby Scholarship in 2014, Pinkelman represented the U.S. in the 2016 Olympics and has played professionally in MLR.
  • Hanco Germishuys: Recipient of the Graham Downes Rugby Scholarship in 2015 and former Eagle, Germishuys played for the Houston SaberCats in MLR.        
  • Damian Morley: Beneficiary of both the Graham Downes Development Fund and Pathways to Excellence Fund, and currently plays for the Miami Sharks.
