Cameron Fields
2024
Prusmack Award
Inductee
It is really no surprise that this year’s Prusmack Award recipient, Harvard University sophomore, Cameron Fields, is tearing it up on the rugby pitch. Her mom ran track at Cal and her dad played football for the Golden Bears. It only seems natural that Cameron is making her mark, combining the skills needed for both those sports. Cameron was a three-sport star at St. Mary’s High School in Stockton, CA. She was introduced to rugby at St. Mary’s and captained the school’s rugby team her sophomore and senior years, earning team MVP honors both years. She set school records in track and field in the 100 meters, long jump, triple jump, and 4x100-meter relay and was a California state meet finalist in the 4x100 meters, 100 meters, and triple jump. Cameron earned Team Offensive MVP accolades in soccer as a junior and played club soccer and won a Elite Clubs National League national championship.
Cameron made an instant impact when she arrived on the Harvard University campus. She was the Crimson’s top try scorer with 11 and helped lead Harvard to the NCAA DI championship match. She scored six tries in six matches at the 2023 CRAA 7s National Championships as Harvard came in third place. As a freshman, Cameron was an National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) All-American and was selected for the USA U23 15s team.
Cameron and the Crimson enjoyed even greater success this past year. She scored 10 tries during an undefeated season for the Harvard 15s team which captured Ivy League and NCAA DI championship titles. The Harvard 7s team won every Spring 7s Tournament it entered and capped off a stellar season with a victory over Lindenwood University in USA Rugby’s CRAA National Championship match. Cameron scored 11 tries in five matches at the CRAA 7s, including three in the title match, a performance that earned her Player of the Match honors. She earned another NIRA All-American nod and was a USA 7s Academy Team selection.
Cameron is studying sociology and would like to go into either data science or sports law after college. She would ultimately like to work for the NBA. Her goals in rugby are to continue to play at a high level and represent team USA on the national stage.
