Johnny Everett

2024

Inductee

Johnny Everett started playing rugby for the Daly City Browns in 1976. Later, he joined his brother, Whit, on the perennial powerhouse, Old Blues. He played with the Old Blues from 1978 until the late 1980s, helping the side win five US National Club Championships.

Johnny was selected for the Northern California Pelicans, Pacific Coast Grizzlies and US Eagles on numerous occasions. He toured with the Old Blues, Grizzlies and Eagles to New Zealand, UK, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada, Argentina, and Australia, as a member of the Eagles team at the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987.

The biggest pleasure Johnny had in rugby was volunteering at Saint Mary's College for 19 years and helping the Gaels become an elite collegiate program, winning three National Collegiate titles. The tours Johnny enjoyed with the Old Blues, Grizzlies and Eagles laid the groundwork for his and Tim O'Brien's annual tours with the Saint Mary's rugby team as the Gaels visited Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Argentina, New Zealand, and Canada.

In addition to coaching at Saint Mary's, Johnny also volunteered his time coaching Piedmont High School, Old Blues, and Lamorinda RFC.

Johnny spent over 40 years either playing or coaching rugby.  Since stepping away from the sport, Johnny spends his time with his wife Mary (his biggest fan), daughter, son and three grandchildren. He is an avid duck hunter, a sport he has enjoyed since his childhood.
