April 25, 2025

Since third grade, Emerson Callegari has developed into a standout women's rugby player known for exceptional game intelligence and leadership. Introduced to the sport by her father, a former player, Callegari was initially drawn to rugby through her interest in flag football, quickly forming a connection that feels "like home" compared to other sports.

A versatile athlete, Callegari has mastered multiple positions including fly half, inside and outside center, and fullback. Her rugby journey spans prestigious programs including EIRA, Atlantis, Celtic Barbarians, and Rugby Advantage. Her leadership abilities have been repeatedly recognized as she captained her high school team for three years and led various select sides in tournament play.

"Emerson has been a standout figure in the rugby world for the last two years, showcasing not just talent but a profound understanding of the game," notes Ryszard Chadwick, Head Coach of Women's Rugby at Life University. "Her superior rugby IQ means she's always two steps ahead, anticipating plays and opponents' moves with unparalleled accuracy."

Callegari's excellence has earned her MVP honors for three consecutive years (2021-2023) and a state championship. Her international potential was recognized with selection as a non-traveling reserve for the U18 USA 7s team and being picked for the U18 USA team to compete in Wales.

Beyond rugby, she served with the Montgomery County Food Bank and Meals on Wheels from 2021-2024, applying the same dedication to community service as to athletics. With a 3.4 GPA at Montgomery High School, Callegari will continue her academic and athletic career at Life University, pursuing a degree in exercise science while competing at the D1 Elite level.

"Rugby has played a significant role in my life, shaping my physical capabilities, my character and values," Callegari explains. "The discipline required to excel in rugby has taught me the importance of dedication, resilience, and hard work."

Her aspirations extend beyond collegiate competition, as she aims to secure a spot on the U.S. national rugby team and apply her education to support other athletes through injury prevention and recovery.
