Miles “Doc” Hudson and Pat Vincent Honored at USRF Dinner

San Diego, CA (February 14, 2009) – On the Saturday night of the USA 7s, the USRF held their Annual Dinner in part to honor posthumously, Miles “Doc” Hudson and Pat Vincent with USRF Founders’ Awards. Nearly 100 people attended the affair at the Hotel Solamar, including 32 past U.S. Eagle players and administrators.Past Eagles, Jerry Kelleher and Brad Andrews accepted the Founders’ Award for Pat Vincent. Both played for Coach Vincent in the 1960s and 70s. They discussed the lessons Pat taught his players both on and off the field and how they still hold value today.Past Eagle player and coach, and current Cal head coach, Jack Clark, praised both Doc and Pat and talked of their importance to the game in the U.S. He emphasized Doc’s 37 years with the Cal rugby program and his impressive win loss record of 339-84-23. Accepting the award on his father’s behalf was Ron Hudson who told the audience that rugby and the well-being of his players were two things dear to his father’s heart.Another high point of the evening was an appearance by USA 7s coach Al Caravelli (pictured, above. He also showed a video of some of the exciting tries the Eagles had scored in previous 2009 events. He even fielded a few questions from the crowd defore departing to a well-deserved standing ovation. It capped off a wonderful evening.
