RugbyTown National Training Center Signs on as Title Sponsor of 2022 US Rugby Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
The US Rugby Foundation is pleased to announce that the RugbyTown National Training Center will be the Title Sponsor of this year’s US Rugby Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
This years Induction Ceremony will take place on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Infinity Park Event Center in Glendale, Colorado. The following day, Infinity Park plays host to the US Men’s National Team vs Chile in a Rugby World Cup qualifying match.
The RugbyTown National Training Center is a program of the City of Glendale and has one overarching goal—for the United States to win the Rugby World Cup. The City of Glendale has committed resources towards achieving that goal in these primary ways:
1. The RugbyTown National Training Center has been designated by USA Rugby as the official national training center for the men’s and women’s national 15s teams.
2. The RugbyTown National Training Center houses the RugbyTown Crossover Academy, a program designed to train world-class American athletes to play rugby. These athletes have been recruited from Division 1 college football and basketball programs to learn the sport of rugby. While they may not have had a career in the NFL or the NBA, they are bigger, stronger, and faster than many of the athletes currently playing rugby in a professional league; and they still have the passion to compete at the highest level. Most importantly, they are American athletes who are eligible to play on the US National team.
3. The City of Glendale has invested heavily in rugby over the past 16 years through its development of the Infinity Park Complex and its support of USA Rugby. Under the City’s Partnership Agreement with USA Rugby, Glendale has agreed to host up to four international test matches each year at no cost to USA Rugby and with 100% of the ticket revenues paid to USA Rugby. The development of the RugbyTown National Training Center represents the boldest initiative of the City to date, that of winning the Rugby World Cup. We are all driven by the same goal: the development of world-class American rugby players. We believe that the RugbyTown National Training Center plays an integral part in achieving that goal.
"It is an honor to have the opportunity to showcase the next generation of American rugby players, those who come from the diverse backgrounds of Division 1 football, basketball, wrestling, and track,” said Mike Dunafon, Mayor of Glendale and the visionary behind the RugbyTown National Training Center. “The sport of rugby has opened up new opportunities for these young men who a year ago thought their aspirations of becoming a professional athlete were over. This year’s inductees into the US Rugby Hall of Fame will serve as an inspiration to them all.”
“On behalf of the US Rugby Foundation, thank you to Mayor Dunafon, the City of Glendale and the RugbyTown National Training Center for their support of this year’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,” said US Rugby Foundation President, Brian Vizard. “We are looking forward to another memorable Hall of Fame event at the Infinity Park Events Center and an Eagles victory on Saturday.”
Inductee friends and family, as well as rugby fans everywhere, are invited to join us in this year’s celebration. Please mark your calendars and stay tuned for further details about the event.
