US Rugby Foundation Mourns Death of Robert Erwin
Robert LW "Bob" Erwin of Houston, Texas, died on 9/11/2024. Erwin, who was on the committee that established United States of American Rugby Football Union, the predecessor of USA Rugby, in 1975, served on the US Rugby Foundation (USRF) Board of Directors for many years. Erwin had a long and successful rugby career. He played for and was involved in the formation of numerous rugby clubs throughout Texas, Indiana, and Minnesota, and Erwin served as president of the Midwest Rugby Union from 1977-1978. Erwin was also a member and supporter of the Texas XXX’s, the Minnesota Area Rugby Foundation, Team America, Chicago Lions, and Chicago Hope School. He also supported USRF's fundraising efforts at the Lost Afternoon Luncheon. In 2020, Erwin received the USRF's Lifetime Achievement Award and entered USA Rugby's Hall of Fame. Bob will be remembered as a foundational figure in shaping rugby in the U.S.
