Kevin Phillipson
Kevin has spent the better part of the past 50 years playing, coaching, and developing rugby. His playing highpoints growing up in South Africa were Griqua’s provincial team, Natal University 1st XV, and 3 years on his high school 1st XV. In the U.S. he had runs with the Midwest Select side as well as the Dallas Harlequins back in the 90’s.
He began coaching in the early 90’s with a significant amount spent in high school programs, having started 3 programs from scratch. Kevin currently coaches a youth program he started in Abilene TX, the local men’s team, and the Abilene Christian University men’s team. He has a passion to bring more kids to rugby, a game he has loved for so long.
Kevin owns a strategic development company that works with national programs specializing in developing sustainability, player selection, and game strategy. He also owns a performance academy developing players focusing on core skills and identifying the player’s optimum positions.
As a Professor with McMurry University in Abilene, TX, he teaches marketing, entrepreneurship, and strategy. He earned a doctorate in business administration with a research focus on entrepreneurship, 3 master’s degrees in Business Administration, Sports Management, and Marketing.
He married Angie in 2006, they parent 7 kids. He was born in South Africa, immigrated to the US in 1992, and served in the South African Army.
